FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jeremy Burns, formerly the communications liaison for Enrollment Services, has been promoted to the position of director of communications, effective Monday, Aug. 29.

Burns will work closely with Suzanne McCray, vice provost for enrollment, and the senior enrollment team to develop and implement new communication efforts, broaden outreach in the state and beyond it, and collaborate with the colleges and service units on recruitment and retention messages.

He will supervise marketing and public relations efforts for Enrollment Services, with an eye to refresh print communications and expand the creative use of digital media. Burns will also collaborate with the Office of University Relations to support that office’s university-wide brand management and promotional campaigns.

“I appreciate being given the opportunity to support the Enrollment Services Division and the University of Arkansas in this new role,” Burns said. “The U of A serves the students and the state of Arkansas in vital and exciting ways, and it is always an honor to be a part of the work of telling our story to prospective and current students, to alumni, to the campus, and to the state.”

Burns is a native of Russellville and graduated summa cum laude from Arkansas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts in fine arts and creative writing. He earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in English from the University of Arkansas. He became the assistant director of nationally competitive awards in the enrollment services division in 2013, where he helped advise students applying for prestigious post-graduate fellowships. As assistant director, and then later as associate director, he was the lead adviser for the James Madison Scholarships and for the State Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF). He also assisted with the Rhodes, Marshall, Gates Cambridge, Truman, Goldwater, and other scholarships. In February 2015, he transitioned into a new role as communications liaison, where he has coordinated the enrollment services’ communications team. Jonathan Langley, assistant director for the office of nationally competitive awards, is the new contact for SURF.

“Jeremy Burns’ work has been exemplary first in the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards and then in our communications department,” said McCray. “This is the perfect next step for Enrollment Services. He brings excellent management and creative skills to this work, which will help us continue to develop and improve our communication strategies.”
