Spring into Fitness with University Recreation's Small Group Training

Small group training offers a unique opportunity to explore a new dimension of fitness by blending camaraderie of group fitness with individualized attention of a certified personal trainer. Small group training is a great option for those seeking to be a part of a motivating class working toward achieving their fitness goals. Each class ranges from three to eight participants.

The small group training programs provide participants with an opportunity for positive change in fitness measurements. Each participant receives an InBody, body composition screening, before and after the 8 week small group training program. Last year the mean change in participant's percentage of body fat for both semesters was a drop of 1.18 percent.

Learning about these results from previous participants encouraged Linda Fricke to sign up for small group training last fall.

"I continue to feel empowered by my experience with small group training. The instructors' did an excellent job of reinforcing that everyone can move at their own pace while providing gentle encouragement that you can do more if you try," said Fricke.

Registration includes a class that will meet twice each week for eight weeks and is led by a certified personal trainer.

"Participating in small group training gave me a set time to workout twice a week which helped me stay accountable," said Kelley Foster, senior communication disorders for speech pathology major.

Complimentary class demos will be held at the scheduled class times from Monday, Feb. 15, to Thursday, Feb. 18.

Classes are offered at various times throughout the day to accommodate various schedules. Classes are located at both the HPER and the UREC Fitness Center. The cost for students to participate in the entire eight week section is $25, for all other UREC membership types the cost will be $35.

Register for small group training by Monday, Feb. 22, at the UREC Main Office, HPER 225, or the UREC Fitness Center located on the second floor of the Arkansas Union. Participants may register online at urec.uark.edu > member services. The spring 2016 small group training schedule, registration packet and more information for all session dates and times are listed at the Small Group Training page.
