Community Strong - Child by Child

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — University of Arkansas faculty and staff have donated a total of $51,034.29 so far to the Community Strong – Child by Child campaign for the United Way of Northwest Arkansas.

“We are entering the second week of our one month fund drive and the response has been excellent,” said Marty Matlock, co-chair for the U of A United Way campaign. “We are at 32 percent of our campaign goal, and we are seeing more contributions – and more participation – than this time last year. It appears that so far the majority of the donations have come from staff members – but we are looking forward to a stronger response from our faculty as the campaign continues. We are also looking for ways to give students more opportunities to participate in Community Strong – Child by Child.”

This year’s campaign is focused on raising money for the 57 agencies and 67 programs supported by the United Way of Northwest Arkansas serving the estimated 26,000 children who live in poverty in one of the state’s most prosperous regions.

U of A faculty and staff can participate in the campaign by turning in the campaign cards they received last week. The cards offer the opportunity to participate by making a donation online, donating with the card itself, using it to volunteer with United Way of Northwest Arkansas, or noting other ways of contributing to the community. When faculty and staff members turn in their cards they become eligible for drawings for $100 Walmart gift cards that will be held each week during the campaign.

The first drawing was held Friday, Oct. 9, and the winners were:

  • Bobby Harris, Facilities Management
  • Richard Longer, Facilities Management
  • Tonya Foster, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness
  • Ann Catherine Jouett, University Development
  • Takama Statton-Brooks, University Housing

Congratulations, and thanks for contributing to Community Strong – Child by Child.
