Leflar Named New U of A Compliance Officer

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Melissa “Missy” Leflar, the former human resources director for the city of Fayetteville since 2007, is now the new compliance officer for the Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance at the University of Arkansas.

She will be responsible for investigating discrimination and sexual harassment complaints filed by students, faculty and staff and respond to complaints filed against the University of Arkansas with state and federal agencies.

She began her new position on May 26.

“We are very happy to have someone with Missy’s background and experience in this very important role at the University of Arkansas,” said Danielle Wood, director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Compliance. “In addition to her investigative duties she will be instrumental in our campus training efforts, explaining the rules and regulations covering issues such as discrimination and sexual harassment to campus administrators, faculty and staff members.”

Leflar has a law degree from the U of A School of Law.

She has 22 years’ experience in human resources and business law, with special expertise in federal and state equal opportunity and employment regulations. She has worked as an employment law defense attorney for the Davis, Wright, Clark, Butt law firm and the Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon and Galchus firm, both in Fayetteville. She has also worked as an employment law instructor and was a full time business law instructor at the Walton College of Business for four years.
