Danny Pugh Named Vice President for Student Affairs at Texas A&M

Danny Pugh, vice provost for student affairs, has accepted the position as vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M University.

Pugh has been with the University of Arkansas for 10 years, starting as the associate vice chancellor and dean of students in 2005. He was named vice provost in 2009.

"My family and I have enjoyed a remarkable 10 years as part of the Razorback family. I want to extend special thanks to Drs. Gearhart and Gaber. Ours was a great team! I also want to thank members of the Board of Trustees, Drs. Sugg, Bobbitt, and White, the faculty and staff, members of the Division of Student Affairs, but most importantly I want to thank the students. I got up every day thinking about making the student experience better for our students and in return they made my life all the better," Pugh said. "I, my wife (Denice), and our sons (Daniel and David) are very excited about my becoming the next VPSA at Texas A&M. The values and traditions of Aggieland are, first and foremost, at the heart of every Aggie student. While we will truly miss our Arkansas friends, we are eager to immerse ourselves in helping Texas A&M become our nation's preeminent public research university."  

 "In my time as chancellor, we've prided ourselves on our Students First philosophy, but we wouldn't have accomplished much without our point man in Student Affairs, Danny Pugh, setting the tone and making things happen," said Chancellor G. David Gearhart. "He's been the difference between good intentions and actual initiatives—producing demonstrable proof of our commitment to serving students. On behalf of Provost Sharon Gaber and myself, we wish him the best in his new position and can't thank him enough for all he's done for the University of Arkansas."

Pugh's first day at Texas A&M will be Aug. 1.

A native of Memphis, Tenn., Pugh earned a Bachelor of Science in communication and Master of Science in Education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He earned a doctorate in higher education from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia.

Prior to arriving at the University of Arkansas, Pugh served as dean of students and associate vice president for student life at Eastern Washington University from 2000 to 2005. He also has held positions as director of judicial programs at the University of Georgia, area coordinator of residence education at Virginia Tech University, and hall director at the University of Tennessee.

An interim vice provost for student affairs will be named at a future date.
