Experts to Discuss Greenhouse Gas Emissions

A panel of experts will discuss the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's proposal to address greenhouse gas emissions from existing power plants at noon Monday, April 6, in room 328 at the University of Arkansas School of Law. The event is free and open to the public and qualifies for one hour of continuing education for legal practitioners.

School of Law Professor Sara Gosman will begin by giving an overview of the proposal under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act. Stuart Spencer, the legal policy advisor for the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, will then discuss the proposal from the state perspective and explain the state's stakeholder process. Following these presentations, Glen Hooks, director of the Arkansas Chapter of the Sierra Club, and Lanny Nickell, vice president of engineering for Southwest Power Pool, will give their perspectives on the issues facing Arkansas. The panel will be moderated by Ross Noland, associate attorney at McMath Woods, who is also an adjunct professor at the law school.

The event is jointly hosted by the Environmental Law Society at the law school and the Environmental Law Section of the Arkansas State Bar Association. Food will be served to those attendees who register for the event at http://attend.com/GreenhouseGasCLE
