Cassie Walker Selected as February's Student Leader of the Month

Junior Cassie Walker has been selected as the February Student Leader of the Month. Originally from Flower Mound, Texas, Cassie came to the University of Arkansas to major in biomedical engineering. Cassie currently serves as a peer mentor for the College of Engineering and Honors College Ambassador, member of the Biomedical Engineering Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and is an undergraduate research assistant. She is also the co-founder and treasurer of Students Promoting Artists on Campus.

According to Cassie, "The organizations that I'm involved in allow me to use my strengths to give back to the community and to help others achieve their own goals. I also think it's very important to create a personalized educational experience for myself and to not get lost in the crowd." The idea of personalizing her education and being an individual ties into her favorite quote from Maya Angelou, which states, "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."

When asked what advice she would give to other leaders, Cassie said, "I would advise other leaders to keep a balance in their lives. As a student leader, it can be difficult to juggle classes, organizations, leadership roles, and other commitments. Make sure you take some time to recuperate and give your brain a break!"
