Bill Mock, associate director of intramural sports for the department of University Recreation will retire this month after 27 years of service with the department.

Mock has worked for the department as it has evolved in many ways: new and remodeled facilities, 18 years of the National Youth Sports Program, the transition from Intramural/Recreational Sports to University Recreation, as well as the integration of online registration and scheduling.

Mock's proudest accomplishment during his tenure has been leading and mentoring more than 50 graduate assistants, more than 1,000 student employees, and tens of thousands of participants.

"Many changes have occurred during my time here, but the thing that has remained constant is the hard work, and loyalty that my student staff give to this department," said Mock. "I am very thankful for each of them."

He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of North Alabama, and a Master of Arts from the University of Mississippi.

Mock will continue his career in recreation beginning later this month as the director of parks and recreation for the city of Springdale.

The campus community is invited to a retirement celebration honoring Mock from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 9, in the HPER Building student lounge (HPER 310).
