This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: May 3-10
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will hold several events during finals week including concerts and an art exhibitions. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these on campus and off campus events for the visual and performing arts.
The one-night exhibition Stranded in Hypothesis by Shannon Vance will be on display Saturday, May 4, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at LaLaLand Art Gallery (641 W. Martin Luther King Blvd. in Fayetteville).
The sUgAR Project will host the Spring 2013 ARTwalk Saturday, May 4, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. with exhibitions at the Fine Arts Center Gallery and studios and the Ceramics Studio building. The venues will host work from the departments of art, landscape architecture and interior design. Professors and students will be available to answer questions. Receptions will be held at each location.
Students of professors James Greeson and Ben Harris will give a group guitar recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, in the Fine Arts Center's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
Also on Sunday, Emily McPherson will give a flute recital with videography by Sam King and John C. Kelley at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.
The Fine Arts Center Gallery will exhibit the work of graduating bachelor of fine arts students from Monday, May 6, until Saturday, May 11. The work will represent a wide range of media including painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture and graphic design.
The one-night exhibition Synthetic Syncopation by Ashley Lindsey and Stephanie Petet will be on display Friday, May 10, at LaLaLand Art Gallery. Music by WitchSister and Foley's Van will follow a reception from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.
A reception honoring graduating bachelor of arts students will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The gallery will also be open Saturday, May 11, from noon until 5 p.m. in conjunction with commencement events.
Continuing events include the BA and BFA Annual Awards Exhibition, which will remain on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily until Saturday, May 4, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. An awards presentation and gallery reception will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3.
